Case Study 2

Reducing crime and implementing crime prevention training.

Background

In 2001, Elite Security Services UK Ltd (ESS), a nationwide security company based in Hull, partnered with Bourne Leisure Ltd to enhance security and reduce crime at Bourne’s flagship holiday park, Presthaven Sands, located in North Wales.

ESS drew upon the innovative training methods and expertise of Mo Bassi, now operations director of NSA-Training.

Objectives

The partnership aimed to create a welcoming and safe destination for tourists at Presthaven Sands and reduce crime rates in the area.

Implementation Process

To meet the objectives, security personnel were equipped with comprehensive knowledge regarding the park and its amenities, fostering a more informed and approachable security presence. Guards were also trained to recognise behavioural patterns that may precede violent incidents, enabling them to intervene before issues escalate. Rewarding career progression paths were opened to security staff, enhancing job satisfaction and reducing staff turnover.

Regular analyses of crime statistics were conducted in collaboration with several government agencies, creating actionable plans to address trends on a quarterly basis. A mentorship program was also opened, where existing Welsh security personnel worked alongside English staff who possessed skills better suited to serving the predominantly English tourist demographic.

Bassi oversaw a strategy to recruit English staff to the area. Bourne Leisure, on the advice of Bassi, implemented a pricing strategy aimed at attracting a new clientele to the park.

Conclusion

Through these targeted strategies, ESS created a safer environment at Presthaven Sands, leading to a significant reduction in crime rates and improved customer satisfaction.
The implementation of on-the-job training not only enhanced the skills of security personnel, but also fostered a collaborative work culture that benefitted both employees and guests alike.

In Summary

Through Bassi’s efforts, Presthaven Sands became a safer environment, with reduced crime rates, increased customer satisfaction, and a collaborative workplace culture.

Crime figures were reduced from figures in excess of 200 in 2001 to 62 recorded incidents in 2004.
